This is a classic orienteering course.

There will be 4 courses on offer Red Long, Red Short, Orange and Yellow.
This is the most technical map of the season. It is a different part of the forest from what we used last year, a little easier to get around, less steep and better underfoot , but most of the area is covered in pine trees about 3m high and there is limited visibility. Anyone entering the red course must take a compass and must know how to use it. If you are not a competent compass user, then please register for the orange or yellow courses. The yellow course closely follows features like fences or streams. For the orange course, you can chose to follow handrails like fences, streams or tracks for part of the way or as back stops so you don't run too far past or too far left/right. The red course has many controls that are in the middle of poor visibility bush and away from easy handrails, hence the need to be able to use a compass to find them. The ground is easy enough to traverse, runable if you are a mountain goat, more jog or fast walk for the average person. The red and orange courses will likely involve some stream and/or marsh crossings, so expect to get wet feet, unless of course you are that springy mountain goat who can jump across ( some of you will be able to do that). The Red Long course is the Red Short course with an extra loop around the back of the map. Enter the Red course you are most likely to complete and when you get to the control where it loops, you can choose whether to go long or short. Just let us know when you finish if you have swapped courses.
Ideally everyone takes a compass, so if you end up unsure of your location at any time you can follow the safety bearing back to the road.
Our thanks to the landowners for allowing us on their land. Please respect the fences, leave gates as you find them and most importantly in these dry conditions, take nothing with you that could contribute to starting a fire.
As the saying goes.... Take only memories and leave only footprints
