Welcome to 2026

Published Sun 04 Jan 2026

Barry Ruddell is the new WHO president, with the same committee supporting. Email WHOrienteering@gmail.com in the first instance if you want to contact any of us.

Soon we will be opening up the website for 2026 club registrations. This year we have kept membership fees the same with an added bonus of $10 off a WHO orienteering shirt if you join before 1 March 2026. Members benefit from reduced club fees for events both locally and across New Zealand and official registration with Orienteering New Zealand.

We are aiming to put another shirt order through in March, information and ordering is set up through the website or you can email the club WHOrienteering@gmail.com

It would be nice to see WHO members running at some bigger events this year. Nationals are in the Masterton area at Easter, but closer to home, North West are hosting the Tuariki-Northern Regional Champs on Anzac weekend ( 25 – 27 April) in Woodhill and Auckland is hosting the Triple Crown in Woodhill on Kings Birthday weekend (30 May – 1 June). If you are keen on trying Mountain Bike Orienteering, the NZ MTBO Champs are being held in Rotorua on the 16-17 May.See the ONZ websites events page for links to details. Great opportunities for people wanting to experience competitive, quality orienteering, usually on interesting maps.

We have supported local year 7 and 8 students to participate in the orienteering at the AIMs games for the last 2 years. If you know anyone who will be attending this year, please register on the website (set up as an event) so we can connect and support you to enjoy the event in 2026.

ONZ organise competitive secondary schools events usually in the April and July school holidays, again, visit the ONZ events page for details

I hope everyone gets a little break over the summer and we see you all again at our events coming soon
